    Kevin's story*

    In 2004, my doctor in Maine removed some moles from my neck and back — came back melanoma — so we removed more and kept watch of it for 2 years, no sign. Well, in 2009 November 24th, I thought I was having a heart attack and went to the hospital. The melanoma came back in both lungs. Also had lung cancer and I've never smoked. The doctors here in Maine told me there was no treatment or cure and that I should get my affairs in order. My family and I talked it over and decided to call Boston. We contacted Brigham and Women's Hospital for a surgeon and Dana-Farber for an oncologist. 3 years of chemo and 5 surgeries later, I'm not cancer free but we are keeping it at bay and watching a spot that hasn't moved in about a year. I feel that all the doctors, nurses and all involved in my care are the reason I'm still living. They gave me so much strength to fight on with a lot of help from family, too.
