Dana-Farber Community Cancer Care physician practices have been recognized as Patient-Centered Specialty Practices by the National Committee for Quality Assurance. We also offer supportive services to help patients and families throughout treatment, including:
Patient Advocates are team members who specialize in helping patients and families negotiate the complicated world of insurance coverage, cost of cancer care, disability coverage, transportation and other issues. Patient Advocates may assist with transportation costs and arrangements, securing insurance coverage for cancer care and counseling for housing or fuel costs while receiving treatment.
To speak with a Patient Advocate, ask your health care provider, a receptionist, nurse, or an Office Manager, or call 617-770-9150 or 9152.
The genetic counseling program helps patients determine if their cancer may be due to an inherited gene. The genetic counselor works with patients to explain the clinical, legal and familial implications of carrying a cancer gene.
Patients may be eligible to participate in select clinical trials at Dana-Farber Community Cancer Care locations. Clinical trials evaluate the safety and effectiveness of new therapies, look at new ways to give treatment, see how lifestyle changes can help cancer patients, or explore methods to keep cancer from recurring. You can learn more about clinical trials in the video, "Entering a clinical trial: Is it right for you?".
Our team works with patients after treatment has ended to develop a personalized care plan that addresses their unique medical and psychosocial needs. This plan helps survivors and their primary care providers identify needed screening tests and manage potential long-term or late effects of treatment.
