    Challenging Discussions and Decisions in Cancer Care

    Please join us for an important discussion about managing end-of-life conversations and decision-making with cancer patients and their families. This program has been developed for primary care physicians, oncologists, palliative care providers, nurse practitioners, and other interested clinicians. Members of Dana-Farber's palliative care team will present approaches that will help providers to:

    • Discuss the role of family and its impact on patient decision-making
    • Describe effective interventions to enhance the relationship between patients, physicians, and staff
    • Incorporate the "D" word in advance care plan discussions with patients
    • Discuss how to address patient requests for hastened death
    • Apply practical tools to identify causes of challenging patient behaviors that may indicate for referral to a social worker or psychiatrist
    • Describe the burden/benefit of artificial hydration and nutrition in patients with advanced disease

    This course is offered by Dana-Farber/New Hampshire Oncology-Hematology and Southern New Hampshire Area Health Education Center.
