Sarcoma and Bone Cancer Types

Short placeholder heading

When you come to the Sarcoma Center, you'll meet with dedicated clinicians who have expertise in caring for patients with sarcoma.

Our specialists see patients with all sarcomas and a variety of mesenchymal tumors, including chondrosarcoma, desmoid tumor, liposarcoma, neurofibrosarcoma, osteosarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma.

Our group is also dedicated to clinical research to develop innovative treatment strategies for soft tissue and bone malignancies.

We will work with you to find other support services within Dana-Farber, including nutrition, complementary therapies, spiritual support, financial help, survivorship, and resources for families and young adults.

Treating Soft Tissue Sarcomas and Bone Cancers

Soft Tissue Sarcomas

Soft tissue sarcoma is a disease in which malignant (cancer) cells form in the soft tissues of the body. The soft tissues of the body include the muscles, tendons (bands of fiber that connect muscles to bones), fat, blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves, and tissues around joints. Adult soft tissue sarcomas can form almost anywhere in the body, but are most common in the head, neck, arms, legs, trunk, and abdomen.

Bone Cancers

There are several types of bone cancer. Osteosarcoma is the most common bone cancer. It starts in bone cells that make new bone tissue. It usually forms at the end of long bones, such as the leg bones, but can form in any bone. Ewing sarcoma includes several types of bone tumors. Ewing sarcoma tumors usually form in the hip bones, the ribs, or in the middle of long bones. Ewing tumors are most common in bone but can also form in soft tissue.
