• Older Adult Leukemia Program

    Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Care

Our Older Adult Leukemia Program offers specialized services for patients who are age 65 or older. The program treats patients with all types of leukemia, except chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Patients with CLL may contact our Center for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia at 617-632-3245.

    Treatment Approach

We ensure that adults 65 years of age or older with leukemia receive the full spectrum of care. This includes not only identifying the best treatment for their cancer, but also managing any other health and wellness issues they may face. Download or print our program flyer to learn more.

Our compassionate, expert team provides each patient with a comprehensive evaluation of their:

    • Medical history
    • Current medications
    • Physical and psychological health
    • Family and social support

During the evaluation, we will also address any concerns or questions about:

    • Diet and exercise
    • Emotional well-being
    • Home safety
    • Financial security
    • Transportation to and from medical appointments
    • Advanced care planning

After the evaluation, working with the patient's Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center oncologist, we will develop a customized plan to address both the patient's specific medical needs and overall well-being.

    Treatment Team

Our program is led by hematologist/oncologist Gabriela Motyckova, MD, PhD, and geriatrician Jane Ann Driver, MD, MPH.

The other members of our team include oncologists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants with many years of experience treating patients with leukemia. Our team also includes social workers and geriatricians who have a special understanding of the issues affecting older adults and their families.
