Q: How do you translate grams into cups or teaspoons?
CR, Boston, Massachusetts
A: When translating to cup or tablespoon size, there is no set rule for dry foods, as this is a volume or density measurement. For example, 1 cup of leafy spinach will weigh less than 1 cup of beans.
Here are a few tips:
- For liquid measurements: 8 ounces or 1 cup = ~225 grams
- Sugar: 1 teaspoon (usually a packet of sugar) = 4 grams
- Salt: 1 teaspoon = 2400 mg sodium = 6 grams of table salt
