In a review of approximately 200 studies, high consumption of fruits and vegetables showed a significant protective effect against developing cancer.

More than 5,000 phytonutrients have been identified in fruits and vegetables. Phytonutrients are important, plant-based nutrients found in all plant foods, including fruits and vegetables.

Phytonutrients have different functions to help keep us healthy, including: scavenging free radicals and working as anti-oxidants; inhibiting cancer cell growth; regulating oncogenes and tumor suppressor gene expression; inducing cancer cell death; modulating enzyme activities in detoxification, oxidation and reduction; stimulating the immune system; regulating hormone metabolism; and displaying antibacterial and antiviral effects.

This is why it is important to have fruits and vegetables as part of your daily diet, instead of taking supplements. Strive to include a variety of plant-based foods. The phytonutrients work as a team.

This veggie pizza is a great way to incorporate great variety of vegetables. Have fun and be creative.
