Do African-Americans Need More Vitamin D?

Information From a Medical Oncologist

Study: African-Americans Need More Vitamin D

A study by Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center medical oncologist Kimmie Ng, MD, MPH, shows that African-Americans have lower levels of vitamin D in the blood and may need higher doses of vitamin D supplements to meet nationally-established goals. She adds it is very important that further research be done on vitamin D metabolism in this subgroup of our population. Higher levels of Vitamin D may be protective against certain diseases, including survival from colorectal cancer.
