Jayne Bennett Friedberg
Jayne Bennett Friedberg reinforces the truism that if you want
to get a job done, give it to a busy person who is also competent
and caring. Her sense of responsibility was shaped by events in her
life. Growing up in Needham, Mass., with her parents and younger
twin brothers, she learned at an early age to cope with adversity.
Her father passed away when she was 13 years old and in 1978, her
brother Alan was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. Jayne
assumed the role of caretaker during his years of treatment. After
he lost his valiant struggle at age 27, Jayne transferred her care
to her mother, who suffered a stroke as a result of her son's
illness.
Her parents stressed helping others and giving back to the
community, and Jayne believed that working for the Friends of
Dana-Farber would enable her to do just that. Once becoming a
Friends' Board member, Jayne quickly demonstrated her expertise by
co-chairing many committees before being elected recording
secretary, executive vice president of fundraising, co-president
for two terms and president for another two terms. Presently, she
is once again co-chairing the Tribute Book for the Friends'
Gala.
Multiple accomplishments include graduating with honors from
Boston University School of Management with a BA/BS in Finance and
combining professionalism and volunteerism. Jayne is a vice
president at Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage and, as a
top-producing real estate broker, is the recipient of numerous
honors. Working seven days a week does not deter Jayne from
devoting equal time to strengthening her resolve to keep the
Friends in the forefront of winning the battle against cancer.
As if this schedule is not full enough, Jayne finds time to
serve on numerous philanthropic committees, as well as being an
Executive Board Member of the Brookline Chamber of Commerce. Most
important, at the center of Jayne's busy and productive life is her
devoted husband, Steven, and their son, Ethan. She said, "Together
we enjoy taking long walks, fixing up our Brookline home and
working on our garden."
