Kristie DiSalvo Velarde has more than 10 years of public relations, marketing, and communications experience. At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, she manages strategic marketing and communications efforts to support clinical growth. She also provides leadership and support for department-wide client management processes. During her tenure at Dana-Farber, Velarde also developed and launched Insight, the Institute’s first blog.
Prior to Dana-Farber, Velarde worked as an account director at Denterlein, a public relations, marketing and communications consulting firm in Boston. Her client roster included Winchester Hospital, Tufts Health Plan, and Delta Dental of Massachusetts. In addition to media relations, Velarde also advised and provided clients with strategic planning, leadership positioning and public policy support.
Velarde began her career as a daily newspaper reporter. She won six awards from the Virginia Press Association, and has also worked for papers in Boston, Rhode Island and Connecticut. She is a former president of the Massachusetts Society Prevention for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children’s Champions board, and past marketing chair of the Urban Land Institute. She earned degrees in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Rhode Island.
