    Message from the Co-chairs

The Dana-Farber Leadership Council is the most important and fulfilling philanthropy in which we are involved. Many of us have been touched by cancer in some way, be it through a personal experience, with a family member, a colleague or a friend.

The work we do through the Leadership Council directly helps the fight against cancer by raising money for and increasing awareness of the lifesaving work going on at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

The Council offers unprecedented access to some of the world's leading doctors and researchers, provides an incredible forum for learning about strides being made against cancer, and brings together a superb group of professionals throughout the Greater Boston business community.

Currently, the Dana-Farber Leadership Council has more than 130 members who represent a variety of business and personal resources throughout the Boston area.

We are passionate about the Leadership Council and Dana-Farber. We are more than happy to talk to you about the Council and why we are involved. Please contact us with any questions.

The Dana-Farber Leadership Council is led by Co-chairs Jeff Goldstein and Russell Norris. All members of the DFLC are encouraged to join one of our four committees. In addition to providing a way to get more deeply involved with the Leadership Council and Dana-Farber, these committees are an opportunity to get to know other Council members.

    Annual Giving Committee

Chairs: Jeff Beale and Ted Simms

Chaired by Jeff Beale and Ted Simms, the Leadership Council Annual Giving Committee is devoted to increasing annual support for Dana-Farber and to developing the next generation of philanthropists. Its mission is to advance Dana-Farber’s lifesaving work in research and patient care through financial support.

All Leadership Council members are required to make a gift to the Leadership Council Annual Fund. This fund supports initiatives and programs designated as a priority by Dana-Farber President & CEO Edward J. Benz Jr., MD. These critical funds make an enormous impact in the lives of Dana-Farber’s patients and families. The suggested contribution amount is $1,000, and a gift of $1,500 or more qualifies you for the President’s Circle, Dana-Farber’s leadership giving society. One hundred percent Leadership Council participation will allow us to reach, and hopefully exceed, our 2013 Annual Giving goal of $275,000.

The Committee develops solicitation strategies and Annual Fund appeals, hosts fundraising and social events, and collaborates with Dana-Farber’s Development staff to create targeted direct mail and email campaigns.

Chairs: Jamie Brown and Ian McLeod

    walk-committee.jpg

The Walk Committee is charged with developing and directing DFLC’s participation in the Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai. The Committee is always looking for new members! Whether you are a current Walk participant, Walk volunteer, or simply an interested Council member, we encourage you to join us to help strategize ways for the DFLC community to have an even bigger impact on Dana-Farber’s premiere fundraising event.

The Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk is the Jimmy Fund’s largest event, comprised of more than 7,800 participants in 2012. The Walk has raised in excess of $80 million since its inception in 1989 and it is the only event, other than the Boston Marathon® itself, sanctioned by the Boston Athletic Association and authorized to travel along the famed 26.2-mile route from Hopkinton to Boston. This year’s Walk is set for Sunday, September 8, 2013. Mark your calendars.

Are you interested in joining fellow Council members on the DFLC Walk Team, starting your own Walk team, or volunteering at the Walk?
