The Dana-Farber Society honors those who have left a legacy to the Institute for their vision, dedication, and impact on cancer research and patient care. Please join this special community by making a gift through your estate plans.

The Society's goal is to help fulfill the Institute's mission to provide expert, compassionate care to children and adults with cancer while advancing the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, cure, and prevention of cancer and related diseases.

What started out as a group of 90 individuals in 1990 has grown to a community of more than 1,000 individuals.

Read an online version of a recent issue of Planning Matters, our semi-annual newsletter, highlighting various donors in the Dana-Farber Society who have invested in the mission of Dana-Farber.

We look forward to recognizing our members at the 27th annual Dana-Farber Society Dinner in 2017, and we hope that you will be a part of it.

    History

    Sidney Farber

Members of The Dana-Farber Society actively participate in the dynamic chronicle begun more than five decades ago by Sidney Farber, MD, and Charles A. Dana Sr., men of vision who recognized the importance of joining forces against the devastating disease of cancer.

Sidney Farber, MD, established the Institute in 1947 as the Children's Cancer Research Foundation. A pathologist who became known as the "father of chemotherapy," Dr. Farber was the first physician to achieve remission in childhood leukemia. An envoy of hope, he made groundbreaking advances in cancer research and patient care.

    Charles A. Dana

Charles A. Dana Sr. was an attorney, legislator, industrialist, and philanthropist. As founder of the Charles A. Dana Foundation, he directed funding to advance programs in healthcare and higher education. The Institute acknowledged its generous, long-term support from the Dana Foundation by incorporating the Dana name into its official title in 1983.
