Dana-Farber again ranked as New England's top cancer center

Posted date

In the 2008 U.S.News & World Report hospital survey, Dana-Farber is again the highest ranked cancer hospital in New England and fifth in the country. This is the eighth straight year that the Institute earned top ranking in New England and was among the top five centers nationally. The rankings will be published in the magazine's annual America's Best Hospitals guide, which will appear in the July 21/28 issue and will be available on newsstands on July 14.

"Being named as one of the country's leading cancer institutions speaks to the dedication of our caregivers, scientists, staff, and board members who work tirelessly to ensure that we provide compassionate care and conduct innovative research that furthers our understanding of cancer and leads to new treatments," says Dana-Farber President Edward J. Benz, Jr., MD. "It also is a tribute to those who have generously supported our mission and share our vision of one day eradicating cancer."

U.S.News & World Report publishes the hospital guide each year as a reference for patients who are reviewing their medical care options. RTI International, Research Triangle Park, NC, compiled all hospital data and generated the 2008 rankings. A cancer center's overall score is based equally on professional reputation, mortality rates, and a grouping of care-related factors such as nursing and patient services.
