The Stop & Shop Family Pediatric Neuro-Oncology Outcomes Clinic at Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center empowers pediatric survivors of brain or spinal cord tumors and their families to lead the healthiest and most fulfilling lives possible - through clinical care, education, and research.
If your childhood brain or spinal cord treatment is behind you, we welcome you. We provide care to those who were treated anywhere in the world for a brain or spinal cord tumor before the age of 21 and who need tumor surveillance imaging no more than once a year. For those who were treated between ages 21 - 30 through our Adolescent and Young Adult Neuro-Oncology Program, we are available for consultation.
Multidisciplinary Clinic
Our multidisciplinary clinic staffed by pediatric brain tumor specialists includes neuro-oncologists, neurologists, psychologists, neuropsychiatrists, dermatologists, school liaisons, and other health care professionals. All have survivorship expertise in a combined clinical setting. Our specialists meet to discuss your care and collaborate on the best approach to your care.
Education and Support
Empowering brain tumor survivors to lead healthy lives includes caring for their well-being: focusing on physical and mental health, socializing, developing relationships, reaching goals in education and employment, and beyond. We provide a wide range of educational resources and support services both on-site and out in the community.
School Needs of Brain Tumor Survivors
We understand that brain tumor survivors need support with returning to school and resuming academic learning. Our Back to School Program is designed to ease your child's transition back to the classroom. Our School Liaison Program supports the educational needs of children who’ve been treated for brain tumors. It provides consultation regarding cognitive and other late effects of treatment to help parents understand and advocate for their child’s learning needs. The program also works with educators to help them understand the late neuropsychological and other effects of treatment and discuss services and strategies that help enable young patients to succeed in school. School-age (K-12) patients who live within 60 miles of Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s are eligible for services that include psychologists’ attendance at school meetings. Telephone consultation is available for patients living more than 60 miles from Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s.
Research
Our providers participate in research that seeks to understand how childhood brain and spinal cord tumors and tumor treatment affect survivors’ ability to learn, handle emotions, and move physically, as they develop and grow. Our goal is to provide appropriate treatments to help with these aspects of life.
Patients may be eligible to participate in specific research studies, depending on their specific diagnosis and treatment. You can ask about these opportunities when you visit our clinic.
