Dana-Farber/Partners Cancer Care doctors listed among top cancer specialists for women by Good Housekeeping Magazine

Seventeen Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare (DF/PCC) physicians were listed among the "Top Cancer Specialists for Women" in Good Housekeeping magazine's March 1999 issue.

The magazine's exclusive guide listed 318 of the country's renowned experts in lung, breast and colon cancers. Physicians were nominated through interviews with 280 departmental chairs and section chiefs in surgical, medical, and radiation oncology at major medical centers throughout the United States. Magazine researchers asked, "In your opinion, which doctors provide the most expert treatment and are the leading clinicians for lung, breast and colon cancer in women?" Bias was eliminated by not allowing physicians to nominate specialists from their own institutions. From a list of 1,200 doctors named, Good Housekeeping compiled the 318 cited most often.

Medical, surgical and radiation oncologists from the DF/PCC collaborative program appeared in nine out of ten categories.

"It is intensely gratifying as a physician to be recognized by your peers as being one of the best in your field," said David G. Nathan, MD, CEO of DF/PCC. "Each physician listed represents a team of individuals who, on a daily basis, work very hard to ensure each patient receives the best possible care, from the best possible people."

Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare is the collaborative, multidisciplinary adult oncology program created in 1996 between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and the founding members of Partners HealthCare System, Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham & Women's Hospital. The DF/PCC is centered around 12 disease programs including: breast cancer; gastrointestinal cancer; thoracic cancer; genitourologic cancer; hematological malignancies; gynecological cancer; sarcoma; melanoma; endocrine cancer; head/neck cancers; benign hematology; and neurological cancer.
