U.S.News & World Report ranks Dana-Farber as New England's top cancer hospital

Institute named one of the nation's best cancer centers

For the fourth straight year, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been rated the top cancer hospital in New England and the fourth best in the nation by U.S.News & World Report. The rankings, part of the magazine's annual America's Best Hospitals guide, will be published in the July 12 issue.

"The continued recognition of Dana-Farber as one of the nation's top cancer centers is a testament to the commitment of our caregivers, scientists, staff, and board members, as well as that of our colleagues at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston, to partner with our patients and their families to provide the best possible care today while conducting innovative research that will result in better treatments, and, ideally, methods to prevent cancer," said Edward J. Benz, Jr., MD, president of Dana-Farber. "We are also training the next generation of the brightest and most committed people in the cancer field."

U.S.News & World Report publishes the hospital guide each year as a reference for patients who are reviewing their medical care options. The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago developed and conducted the survey. In addition to cancer, the guide ranks medical facilities in 16 other specialties. The overall score is based equally on professional reputation, mortality rates, and a grouping of care-related factors such as nursing levels and technology services.

Dana-Farber provides adult oncology care in partnership with Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, a comprehensive service that combines the expertise of Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women's Hospital. Dana-Farber's extensive pediatric oncology services are offered in conjunction with Children's Hospital Boston through Dana-Farber/Children's CancerCare.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a principal teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School and is among the leading cancer research and care centers in the United States. It is a founding member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC), designated a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute.
