WASHINGTON - Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, for the second straight year, has been rated the top cancer hospital in New England and the fourth best overall in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its annual America's Best Hospitals guide. The guide will be published in the magazine's July 22 issue.

"We're pleased to be named again as one of the nation's top cancer centers, a recognition of our commitment to providing the best possible care today while striving to develop improved treatments for the future," said Edward J. Benz, Jr., MD, president of Dana-Farber.

U.S. News & World Report publishes the hospital guide each year as a reference for patients who are reviewing their medical care options. The National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago developed and conducted the survey. In addition to cancer, the guide ranks medical facilities in 16 other specialties. The overall score is based equally on professional reputation, mortality rates, and a grouping of care-related factors such as nursing levels and technology services.

Dana-Farber provides adult oncology care through Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare, a comprehensive service that combines the expertise of Dana-Farber, Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. Dana-Farber's extensive pediatric oncology services are offered in conjunction with Children's Hospital Boston, again ranked first in Pediatrics this year.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a principal teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School and is among the leading cancer research and care centers in the United States. It is a founding member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC), designated a comprehensive cancer center by the National Cancer Institute.
