First signs of wear
Our long morning ride began at 5 a.m. today. The Tour is a little ahead of schedule at this point, which, because of the way the event is coordinated, actually means that our rest times are shortened. We had checked into a roadside dive at 3 a.m. and were told we'd be able to rest until 7 a.m., but we ended up getting the call to head out at 5 a.m.
We're in New Mexico now, heading into Texas. We were joined by some very strong riders during the night leg. They set an all-out pace for 30 miles. I kept up, but felt absolutely wasted at the end.
