A. Oliver Sartor, MD, national prostate cancer expert, joins Dana-Farber

A. Oliver Sartor, MD, a nationally renowned prostate cancer specialist, has accepted a position with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology.
Sartor was previously at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, where he was the director of the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center. He was also co-director of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium, a legislatively established tobacco tax funded public-private partnership focused on enhancing cancer research in Louisiana.
"Dr. Sartor brings a wealth of clinical and clinical research experience to Dana-Farber and a keen understanding of ethnic disparities in healthcare," says Philip Kantoff, MD, director of the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at Dana-Farber.
Sartor has a clinical and scientific interest in advanced prostate cancer. Specifically, his research has focused on novel therapies for prostate cancer.
"It is a privilege to be joining Dana-Farber," says Sartor. "The Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology is a model program with its depth of research and talent. I am looking forward to collaborating with my new colleagues and contributing to the development of new and more effective prostate cancer treatments and, hopefully, a cure."
In addition to his appointment at Dana-Farber, Sartor is also an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Sartor is the editor-in-chief of the peer-reviewed journal Clinical Genitourinary Cancer and the author of more than 100 scientific papers. He received his medical degree from Tulane University, and completed a fellowship with the National Cancer Institute. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Urological Association, and the Society of Urologic Oncology, and board certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a principal teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School, and is among the leading cancer research and care centers in the United States. It is a founding member of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (DF/HCC), designated a comprehensive care center the National Cancer Institute.
