Dana-Farber staff members continue to earn honors and awards recognizing both individual and collective achievement. The Institute again received high marks from U.S.News and World Report when its annual "America's Best Hospitals" survey gave it the highest ranking of any New England cancer hospital and the fourth-highest rating in the nation. The standings are based on professional reputation, mortality rates, nursing levels, technology services, and other factors.

Dubbing him "the indisputable father of human immunology," Dana-Farber paid tribute last spring to Stuart Schlossman, MD, a longtime faculty member who recently turned 70. A symposium in his honor highlighted Schlossman's contributions to advancing understanding of the immune system and helping translate those findings into improved patient care.

In other news, Dana-Farber's Diane Hanley, MS, RN, was appointed chairperson of the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing, while Christina Parker, MD, was named director of Dana-Farber's Office for Postdoctoral Training and Career Development. ... More than 35 DFCI investigators presented research results at this year's meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, and more than 70 abstracts published in the conference's scientific report included Dana-Farber authors.
