A new center aimed at improving cancer treatments with drugs targeting genetic changes in tumors opened this winter at Dana-Farber. The Center for Cancer Genome Discovery (CCGD) brings together basic scientists studying gene activity patterns with physician-scientists seeking to test novel therapies in patients.

Directed by Matthew Meyerson, MD, PhD, the CCGD is one of eight centers being created under the Institute's Strategic Plan, many of them promoting collaboration within Dana-Farber and beyond. Initiatives already launched include the Center for Applied Cancer Science (working with the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries), the Center for Cancer Systems Biology (studying interactions among genes and proteins), the Cancer Vaccine Center (focusing on immune-based treatments), the Office for Postdoctoral Training and Career Development (supporting researchers-in-training), and the Perini Family Survivors' Center (advancing survivorship care and knowledge).
