A Day for Families Parenting with Cancer

  • If you're a parent being treated for cancer, join Family Connections for Navigating Cancer Together: A Day for Families Parenting with Cancer. Parents will meet together to discuss the challenges of managing a family during treatment, while their school age children (6 - 12 years old) participate in creative and fun educational activities about coping with cancer in the family.

    Complementary parking and lunch will be provided. Email family_connections@dfci.harvard.edu or call 617-632-2605. Please RSVP no later than August 7th.

Webchat: Parenting during Cancer Treatment

  • If you're a parent or guardian living with cancer, tune in for a live video webchat with social workers Allison Dibiaso, LICSW, and Kelly Drummond, LCSW, to learn tips for:

    • Telling children about a cancer diagnosis
    • Managing family life during treatment
    • Forming a support system
    Dibiaso and Drummond, who work with Dana-Farber's Family Connections program, will be joined by Sarah Silvia, a patient raising three young sons during treatment.

Dana-Farber’s Mammography Van is managed by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Mobile Health program and possesses a valid license and certificate of inspection issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.

Gentle Hatha Yoga

This gentle Hatha Yoga class is open to patients, families and friends that have been newly diagnosed with cancer, receiving treatment, or in remission. Instructor, Ann Marie Turo will guide you in gentle stretches and breathing techniques that will calm you and leave you feeling refreshed and relaxed. This one-hour class fuses the practices of Hatha Yoga and Pilates and is open to patients who have been newly diagnosed with cancer, and receiving treatment, or are in remission. This class will work on building strength, endurance, and flexibility, while toning the deep core muscles. Yoga mats will be provided, or you may bring your own. Patients in active treatment will need medical clearance from their physician prior to registration.

Level I-Level II Hatha Yoga

This level 1 - level 2 class takes it up a notch and challenges you to the core. Learn asanas, pranayamas and a variety of yoga sequences that will challenge your body both mentally and physically. Free skin cancer education and screening at area beaches(2)

Revere Beach, Revere

Committed to the communities we serve, the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Blum Van will be visiting beaches across Massachusetts to provide free skin cancer education and screenings this summer. A dermatologist will be on board to provide free full-body examinations and address any skin-cancer related concerns. Participants will receive educational materials, sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, key chains with energy beads that change color in response to UV rays, and Red Sox baseball caps (while supplies last).

 

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Blum Van, a 39-foot van, is designed to bring Dana-Farber’s expertise in the struggle against cancer to the public, through early detection cancer screenings and several cancer education/awareness and prevention initiatives. Full body examinations will be provided by Brigham and Women’s Hospital dermatologists.
