Safety Culture Survey

Dana-Farber uses the AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture to assess its patient safety culture. The survey asks staff members to share their perceptions about the quality of communication, teamwork, collaboration, and fairness at the organization. Understanding our safety culture can help identify strengths and weaknesses, and create a baseline against which we can measure improvements. The survey is conducted bi-annually and is geared for clinical staff.

The most recent survey was conducted in October of 2017. Dana-Farber met or exceeded national benchmark performance of other teaching hospitals in 6 of 12 areas. Results show consistent improvement, with particular strength in teamwork within units, management support for patient safety, and organizational learning.
