Donate Blood and Platelets

Why Donate?

Platelets are the clotting agents of the blood, which help to control bleeding. Cancer patients, trauma victims, and transplant recipients are only a few of the many patients who will need platelet transfusions. Each year we transfuse more than 8,000 units of platelets. The only source of platelets is a healthy donor; there is no substitute.

"I can't think of any other activity or undertaking where the benefits (to the patients) are so dramatically disproportionate to the effort required to donate platelets."
- Stephen McNulty, platelet donor
