Celebrating Contributions Toward Cures
Saturday, April 29
Boston, Mass.
For 30 years, the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been supporting the fight against cancer. To celebrate the anniversary the group will hold a Gala on Saturday, April 29, in The Grand Ballroom of The Ritz-Carlton, Boston. There will be a distinctive Boston theme to the festivities and the black-tie optional event will include dinner and dancing to the orchestral music of Hip Pocket.
The night will also offer an opportunity to honor a man whose contributions to cancer research have had a world-wide impact.
The guest of honor is Emil Frei, III, MD, physician-in-chief emeritus of Dana-Farber. Along with two others, he is credited with developing a novel approach to chemotherapy that led to complete cures for some childhood leukemia patients in the early 1960s and has been used successfully on other cancers as well.
The Friends is committed to making sure researchers like Dr. Frei have what they need to make the next breakthrough in cancer treatment. Since 1975, the all-volunteer group has worked to enrich the lives of Dana-Farber patients, families, visitors, and staff by providing funding for patient services and research projects.
Now 1,700 members strong, the Friends raises funds for treatment programs throughout Dana-Farber and allocates seed money for innovative basic research and clinical trials led by researchers at critical junctures in their careers. Members of the Friends organize a variety of fundraising events, like the Gala, throughout the year to support these initiatives.
Tickets to the Gala are $350 per person and can be purchased by calling the Friends of Dana-Farber at (617) 632-3021 or by mailing a check to the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, MA 02215.
