Join the Friends of Dana-Farber for Dancing for a Cure, an annual holiday event of dance, song, and inspirational performances to benefit cancer research at Dana-Farber. The fourth annual event was held in Knight Auditorium at Barnstable High School in Hyannis, Mass. It was sponsored by Dance Designs of Hyannis with 100% of the proceeds going to the Friends. Funds raised support ovarian and breast cancer research at Dana-Farber.

In 2009, the event hosted two guest speakers from Dana-Farber: Dr. Dan Morganstern, MD, Breast Oncology Center, and Lauren Frei, Friends member. There was also a local speaker, Ms. Jaqui Plummer, who is a breast cancer survivor and a spokesperson for the American Cancer Society. Singers from the Barnstable High School performed with the talented dancers from Dance Designs.

Dancing for a Cure 2008

The third annual Dancing for a Cure fundraiser, sponsored by Dance Designs of Hyannis, MA., was held during a snowy Cape Cod weekend in December. The shows included traditional Nutcracker dances, holiday dances, and musical performances from local Cape Cod artists. Speakers included two Dana-Farber patients, Celeste Reynolds and 9-year-old Isabella Shaw. The show concluded with a beautiful solo by Isabella, Just Stand Up, as the entire cast and audience joined her with their voices and hearts.

Donations, fundraising events, bake sales, T-shirt sales, performance tickets, and a raffle raised $17,000, more than double of what was raised in 2007. Proceeds from the program are donated to the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for ovarian and breast cancer research.
