The passing of Myra Hiatt Kraft this morning greatly saddens the faculty, staff and trustees of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Mrs. Kraft, her husband Robert, a Dana-Farber trustee, and their family have been longstanding supporters of Dana-Farber, providing critical resources that have improved the way Dana-Farber cares for its patients. For more than 30 years, their gifts have supported Dana-Farber's mission, including the establishment of the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center and the Kraft Family Professorship in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber to support the work of Dr. Ken Anderson, an internationally renowned multiple myeloma expert. Most recently, they provided funding to create a community oncology and health disparities outreach program and to support women's cancers research.
"The Dana-Farber community and I are greatly saddened by the passing of Myra Kraft," said Edward J. Benz, Jr., MD, Dana-Farber's president. "She was a remarkable person who graciously shared her intellect, energy and resources to help many organizations and the people they serve, including Dana-Farber. I hope the Kraft family can find comfort knowing that their support of Dana-Farber has benefitted cancer patients worldwide and that it stands as a fitting testament to Myra and her commitment to help others."
