Study examines impact of spiritual support on end-of-life decisions
Dana-Farber's Tracy Balboni, MD, MPH, discusses her study examining spiritual support for patients with advanced cancer. Study results show patients that report high spiritual support from religious communities were less likely to receive hospice care, and more likely to receive aggressive end-of-life medical treatment. The study was published online on May 6, 2013, in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine.
