Breast Cancer Treatment Center

Our Services

The Breast Oncology Center provides a comprehensive range of services for women diagnosed with or being evaluated for all types of breast cancer, including ductal carcinoma in situ, infiltrating (invasive) ductal carcinoma, lobular carcinoma in situ, infiltrating (invasive) lobular carcinoma, inflammatory breast cancer, Paget's disease, and phylloides tumor. We offer ongoing care and consultation for women with localized, regional, and metastatic disease.

Our services include:

  • diagnosis of breast cancer with state-of-the-art outpatient diagnostic tests
  • evaluation of worrisome breast lumps and suspicious mammograms
  • evaluation and treatment of breast conditions associated with previous cancer treatments or other cancer
  • development and implementation of an individualized treatment plan encompassing the latest treatments (surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, and other medical therapies) to provide the best possible outcome

    Plastic surgery for breast cancer

  • access to new and innovative treatments as part of clinical trials
  • long-term, follow-up care and collaboration, as needed, with a woman's primary care physician, her local oncologist, and her local hospital
  • comprehensive assessments of a woman's risk for breast cancer
  • genetic counseling and genetic testing for BRCA1, BRCA2, and other genetic changes that are known to increase a woman's risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer
  • consultation with reproductive medicine specialists about preserving fertility during cancer treatment, sexuality, menopause, and the need for/alternatives to hormone replacement
  • individual/family counseling by social workers, psychologists, or psychiatrists; religious and spiritual counseling by clergy representing all faiths
  • counseling for women with children to help them talk with their children about cancer and identify ways to help their children cope
  • rehabilitation/physical therapy
  • nutrition counseling
  • consultation with/treatment by plastic surgeons
  • palliative care, management of pain and complex symptoms
  • complementary therapies through the Zakim Center
  • educational programs and support groups
  • a clinician-staffed resource center providing access to the latest information about cancer (brochures, books, videos, and online resources)
  • a new clinical program designed specifically to address the complex medical needs of breast cancer survivors
  • a boutique with special products and services for women with cancer
  • counseling about ways to help prevent cancer

Dana-Farber/Partners CancerCare sponsored Advances in Science and Care: A Forum for Women with Breast Cancer in July 2006. The program included presentations on the latest information on diagnostics, treatment options and quality of life issues.
