Endometrial Cancer
Endometrial cancer is the most common malignancy of the female genital tract and the fourth most common cancer in females. Although it is predominately a disease of the postmenopausal woman, 25 percent of cases occur in premenopausal women. The most common symptom of endometrial cancer is abnormal bleeding. While the pap smear occasionally detects this disease, there is no dependable method of screening. Most endometrial cancers are confined to the uterus. Treatment and staging of the disease begins with surgery. Depending on the extent of the disease spread or "stage," radiation and occasionally chemotherapy may be utilized as adjuvant treatment.
