We're constantly working to support our patients and families through the experience of cancer treatment. These stories highlight some of the ways Dana-Farber is helping communication, providing reassurance, and sharing information.

• Bereavement support group 'makes the unbearable bearable'

  

  Dana-Farber's support group, led by social worker Mary Lou Hackett, LICSW, helps bereaved spouses and partners begin the gradual journey to finding meaning in their lives again.

• Patient Gateway helps track symptoms online

  

  Patient Gateway, the secure Internet site on which individuals can check their lab results, order prescription refills, and make appointments, allows patients to keep an ongoing record of symptoms to share with their doctors.

• Concierge Service provides answers for patients and families

  

  The Concierge Service is designed to give adult and pediatric patients, as well as employees, information about the Institute and area resources — much the way a hotel concierge service works.

• Tech tools help cancer patients with vision, hearing challenges

  

  By using computer software and equipment, Dana-Farber patients and family members who are deaf or hard of hearing can be linked in real-time to an online sign-language interpreter.

• Talking to co-workers about a cancer diagnosis

  

  The etiquette of cancer in the workplace takes on a different meaning when working at a cancer center. Members of the Dana-Farber family who have battled cancer offer words of wisdom.

• Spanish-speaking cancer patients share treatment experiences

  

  Cancer survivors from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico shared their stories at a September 2008 panel discussion.

• Cancer patients have a voice in health care legislation

  

  Dana-Farber's Legislative Action Network allows patients and families to voice support for health care legislation online.
