What Should I Expect?

If your child has already been scheduled to visit Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or Children's Hospital Boston you will want to know what to expect. We're here to guide through the process and to help you find out everything you need to know to make this experience less anxiety-provoking. We have answers to your questions about our staff, our inpatient and outpatient areas, our medical care, our support services and how to best help your child during this experience.

Team of experts

No matter what type of procedure or treatment your child will receive at Dana-Farber and Children's, our team of professionals will care for both your child and your family through the entire process.

Comforting, supportive environment

The length or type of appointment will depend on the procedure or care your child needs. Whether your child is coming to Children's for an overnight stay, visiting the Jimmy Fund Clinic for an outpatient procedure or a Stem Cell Transplant, we want you to feel prepared and informed about how, when and where your child will receive care.

Expert medical care

Our pediatric oncology/Stem Cell Transplant programs and services are among the best in the world.

Family support

Beyond our expert medical care, Dana-Farber and Children's offer you and your family many services to support your needs, whether it be a place to sleep, support groups, or financial help.

Help preparing your child

A difficult part of this process is preparing your child for what's to come. Once you learn more about what to expect at Children's or during a visit to the Jimmy Fund Clinic, it's important that your child, too, feels calm and assured.

Answers to your questions

You probably will have many more questions as you and your family go through this, and we are happy to answer all of your questions.
