Community Outreach

CFAR Community Outreach Goals and Objectives

The DFCI-BIDMC-CH CFAR is committed to expanding our activities beyond the institutes and into our communities. For that purpose, the DFCI-BIDMC-CH CFAR established three objectives for its community outreach program initiatives. They are:

  • To initiate and sponsor programs that focus on HIV/AIDS prevention and HIV treatment options.
  • To provide knowledge about the latest HIV research advances to the community.
  • To provide expertise and support to health care providers and to community outreach organizations.

Community Outreach Pilot Projects Awards

The DFCI-BIDMC-CH CFAR Clinical Core offers funding for community outreach pilot projects that develop and promote HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment programs.

Last year, the DFCI-BIDMC-CH CFAR supported four local organizations:

  1. Center for Community Health Education & Research, Inc., located in Dorchester, MA.

The Center develops and supports prevention initiatives for its HIV+ Haitian clients.

  2. Centro Latino De Chelsea/Latinos Community, located in Chelsea, MA.

Centro Latino De Chelsea/Latinos Community concentrates its efforts on reducing the risk of infection with HIV among Latino men and women at high risk.

  3. The Children's Hospital AIDS Program (CHAP), located in Boston, MA.

The Children's Hospital AIDS Program (CHAP) serves HIV-infected and affected children in the greater Boston Area.

  4. National AIDS Treatment Information Project (NATIP), located at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, MA.

NATIP's mission is to provide up-to-date and understandable clinical information for HIV-infected patients and their caregivers.
