Dana-Farber views the education and support of its postdoctoral fellows and graduate students (together called "postdocs") as critical to its mission, recognizing that these individuals will be the scientific leaders of the future. Dana-Farber research departments offer outstanding research opportunities and training. The Office for Postdoctoral Training and Career Development (OPTCD) was established to help postdocs maximize their career opportunities and to establish a welcoming and supportive environment for these essential members of our research community.

OPTCD goals

  • Provide symposia, seminars, a retreat and individual counseling to help postdocs:
    • Establish a career plan and meet their goals;
    • Successfully compete for extramural fellowships and educational grants;
    • Identify a career path that meets their needs; and
    • Learn the skills necessary to transition from training to a long-term career, such as networking, resume preparation, interviewing and negotiation.
  • Create an environment that is responsive and focused on the needs of Dana-Farber postdocs. OPTCD:
    • Provides information about the Boston area through written materials, orientation and the postdoc Web site;
    • Offers a postdoc handbook, providing answers to frequently asked questions at Dana-Farber;
    • Works with Dana-Farber Human Resources to maintain minimum salary standards and benefits; and
    • Maintains a Postdoc Lounge/Resource Center where postdocs can get information and resource materials or just relax for a few minutes in a busy day.

Dana-Farber attracts outstanding postdocs from around the globe. The OPTCD provides a supportive environment for these exceptional individuals and helps them optimize their opportunities for success.
