RATIONALE: Studying samples of tumor tissue from patients with cancer in the laboratory may help doctors identify and learn more about biomarkers related to cancer. PURPOSE: This laboratory study is looking at biomarkers in tumor tissue samples from patients with newly diagnosed neuroblastoma or ganglioneuroblastoma.

Eligibility Criteria

DISEASE CHARACTERISTICS: - Diagnosis of neuroblastoma or ganglioneuroblastoma within the past two weeks - No relapsed neuroblastoma at enrollment - No prior enrollment on a front-line COG therapeutic study (low-, intermediate-, or high-risk) PATIENT CHARACTERISTICS: - Not specified PRIOR CONCURRENT THERAPY: - Not specified
