Cornerstone ceremonies draw All-Star crowd, June 29, 1971. Within a year of starting work on the Charles A. Dana Building, the cornerstone ceremony was held. Representing the Dana family -- whose foundation had already granted $5 million toward the project, with more to come – were Eleanor (far left) and Charles A. Dana, Jr. They flanked (left to right) Dr. Sidney Farber, Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, and Tom Yawkey. (Jimmy Fund)

Triumphant trio, August 1960. No three individuals played a bigger role in the explosive growth of the Jimmy Fund during the 1950s than Ted Williams, Tom Yawkey and Dr. Sidney Farber. Williams was in the closing months of his fantastic Red Sox career when this photo was taken, and it would end fittingly; after accepting a check for the Jimmy Fund before his last game, he homered in his final at-bat. Mrs. Yawkey does the honors, June, 1966. Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey’s wife Jean presents Ted Williams with a plaque listing many of the friends and dignitaries who contributed to the special Jimmy Fund drive following Williams’ Hall of Fame induction. A larger version of the plaque today resides in a gallery at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute that chronicles the Institute’s history and salutes Williams for his role in it. (Jimmy Fund)
