The Harvard Center for Palliative Care is devoted to training leaders in academic palliative medicine. The one-year program for 11 interprofessional fellows offers a diverse clinical experience through rotations at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston Children's Hospital (BCH), and Care Dimensions Hospice. The program is fully accredited by the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and the American Society of Health system Pharmacists.

Adult Fellowship

Fellows spend their first inpatient consult month at Massachusetts General Hospital or Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and then rotate throughout the year for a total of four months at each site. Pediatric Fellowship

The pediatric fellowship is based at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Adult NP Fellowship

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Adult Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner Fellowship is a one-year full time fellowship to prepare a qualified nurse practitioner to assume clinical, leadership, and educator roles in adult palliative care specialty practice. Nurse fellows join an interprofessional class, the Harvard Interprofessional Palliative Care Fellowship, of nurse practitioners, physicians, social worker, and pharmacist who share the goal of a career in palliative care. Training includes classroom teaching and clinical supervision by experts in the field so fellows can attain proficiency in the care of patients with serious illness or at the end of life. Fellows will gain competency in management of pain and other symptoms, end of life symptom management, provision of psychosocial support for patients and families, and advanced communication skills.
