Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Steward St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center join to provide integrated cancer care

Posted date

Beginning this summer, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute will provide hematology and medical oncology care under a new agreement at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, a part of the Steward Health Care System (Steward). This new partnership enables St. Elizabeth’s patients with cancer to remain in their local hospital and receive world-class cancer care provided by experienced Dana-Farber doctors and nurses in partnership with their Steward doctors. The more than one million patients from across the Steward network will also have access to these top cancer services, in an integrated fashion.

“We are very excited to expand our collaboration with St. Elizabeth’s,” said Lawrence Shulman, MD, senior vice president for Medical Affairs at Dana-Farber, “and to be able to offer the latest therapies to their patients with cancer close to home.”

“We are pleased to expand our relationship with Dana-Farber on our campus,” said Kevin Hannifan, president of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. “It is in line with our approach to providing patients with the experts they need, in their community where they live and work.”

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at Steward St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center will provide the latest in hematology and medical oncology care in a convenient, newly-redesigned setting in St. Elizabeth’s Cushing Pavilion. The unit will follow the same policies, procedures, and quality standards used throughout Dana-Farber’s network of care, and patients will also have easy access to advanced care and resources at Dana-Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care in the Longwood Medical Area if needed. St. Elizabeth’s will provide expert imaging, radiation oncology and surgical services, to ensure comprehensive cancer care for patients in one location. St. Elizabeth’s oncology patients will continue with their same physician, and all patients will benefit from an integrated electronic medical record used at all Dana-Farber sites, as well as within the Steward Health Care System.

St. Elizabeth’s and Dana-Farber started collaborating to provide hematology/oncology services in 2011. This relationship is an expansion of that collaboration. As part of its overall commitment to excellent oncologic care, St. Elizabeth’s has also completed a newly renovated infusion center, radiation center, and Intensive Care Unit.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is the newest member of Dana-Farber’s care network.
