Posted date

Today, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is opening its newest satellite location for hematology and oncology services at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, extending a partnership that has been in place since 2011. Under this new arrangement, patients with blood disorders and cancer will receive cancer care provided by experienced Dana-Farber doctors and nurses at St. Elizabeth’s campus in Brighton. This expanded affiliation also creates a pathway for patients to access Dana-Farber clinical trials, support groups and other support services. The more than one million patients from across the Steward network will also have access to these Dana-Farber cancer services.

“We are pleased that this expanded partnership with Dana-Farber is now live,” said Kevin Hannifan, president of St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. “St. Elizabeth’s patients, and patients from across the Steward system, are now able to take advantage of world-class cancer care provided by Dana-Farber.”

”The partnership between Dana-Farber and St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center is the culmination of two years work, and brings together two great faculties and nursing staffs to serve patients from throughout the Steward network,” said Lawrence Shulman, MD, senior vice president for Medical Affairs at Dana-Farber.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center provides the latest in hematology and medical oncology care in a convenient, newly-redesigned setting in St. Elizabeth’s Cushing Pavilion. The unit follows the same policies, procedures, and quality standards used throughout Dana-Farber’s network of care, and patients have easy access to advanced care and resources at Dana-Farber’s Yawkey Center for Cancer Care in the Longwood Medical Area if needed. St. Elizabeth’s continues to provide expert imaging, radiation oncology and surgical services, to ensure comprehensive cancer care for patients in one location. St. Elizabeth’s oncology patients can continue with their same physician and care team, and all patients are benefitting from an integrated electronic medical record used at all Dana-Farber sites, as well as within the Steward Health Care System.

St. Elizabeth’s and Dana-Farber started collaborating to provide hematology/oncology services in 2011. This relationship is an expansion of that collaboration. As part of its overall commitment to excellent oncologic care, St. Elizabeth’s has also completed a newly renovated infusion center, radiation center, and Intensive Care Unit.
