Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Faculty named AAAS 2019 Fellows

Kornelia Polyak, MD, PhD, of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been named a 2019 Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Election as an AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers.

As part of the Medical Sciences section, Polyak was elected as an AAAS Fellow for pioneering studies on clinical and functional relevance of intratumoral heterogeneity and demonstrating the role of the microenvironment in breast tumor progression.

Polyak runs a laboratory that is dedicated to the molecular analysis of human breast cancer. The goal is to identify differences between normal and cancerous breast tissue, determine their consequences, and use this information to improve the clinical management of breast cancer patients.

This year 443 members have been awarded this honor by AAAS because of their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.

New Fellows will be presented with an official certificate and a gold and blue (representing science and engineering, respectively) rosette pin on Saturday, 15 February from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. PT at the AAAS Fellows Forum during the 2020 AAAS Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington.
