Dana-Farber/Boston Children's nation's #1 pediatric cancer program

U.S. News & World Report has named Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center the nation’s #1 pediatric cancer program in its new 2019-20 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. This marks the fifth time since the inception of the U.S. News pediatric specialty rankings in 2009 that Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s has topped the pediatric cancer rankings.

Boston Children’s Hospital remains the #1 pediatric hospital in the nation for the sixth year in a row in U.S. News’s top hospital listings.

Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s brings together two internationally known research and teaching institutions that have provided comprehensive care for pediatric oncology and hematology patients since 1947. The Harvard Medical School affiliates share a clinical staff that delivers inpatient care and surgery at Boston Children’s and most outpatient care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Overall, U.S. News ranked Boston Children’s first in Cancer, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Nephrology, Orthopedics and Urology; second in Diabetes & Endocrinology and Neonatology; third in Pulmonology; fourth in Gastroenterology & GI Surgery; and fifth in Cardiology & Heart Surgery.

The 13th annual rankings recognize the top 50 pediatric facilities across the U.S. in 10 pediatric specialties. U.S. News introduced the Best Children’s Hospitals rankings in 2007 to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available in consultation with their doctors and other medical professionals. The rankings are the most comprehensive source of quality-related information on U.S. pediatric hospitals.

The U.S. News Best Children’s Hospitals rankings rely on clinical data and on an annual survey of pediatric specialists. The rankings methodology factors in patient outcomes, such as mortality and infection rates, as well as available clinical resources and compliance with best practices.
