Dana-Farber Cancer Institute President and CEO, Laurie H. Glimcher, MD, has been recognized by the Boston Municipal Research Bureau (BMRB) with the 2020 Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Award – Champion of Business. The award honors individuals who provide dedicated public service to the city of Boston and the community.

In addition to becoming the Institute’s first female President and CEO, Glimcher also has a distinguished career in immunologic cancer research. She identified key transcriptional regulators of protective immunity and the origin of pathophysiologic immune responses underlying autoimmune, infectious, and malignant diseases. Her lab focuses on molecular pathways that regulate CD4 T helper cell development and activation.

In giving Glimcher this award, the BMRB recognizes that Glimcher continues to advocate for improved access to health care and medical education, and that she serves as a mentor and role model for cancer research trainees and for women in science.

Along with Glimcher, 10 Boston employees and a Champion of Non-Profit were honored in a virtual ceremony on Oct. 6th

The Henry L. Shattuck Public Service Awards acknowledge individuals who exemplify “the integrity, initiative, leadership, and commitment to the public good that Henry L. Shattuck personified as Chairman of the Research Bureau.” The Bureau uses these awards to thank the department heads, peers, and business leaders who have provided outstanding public service to Boston.
