Matthew Meyerson, MD, PhD and Lyn Jones, PhD of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute have been named as Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Election as an AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers.

This year 489 members have been awarded this honor by AAAS because of their scientifically or socially distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.

Meyerson serves as Director of the Center for Cancer Genomics at Dana-Farber, Professor of Pathology at Dana-Farber and Harvard Medical School and is a Senior Associate Member of the Broad Institute. Dr. Meyerson has concentrated on using genomic approaches to understand the biology and genetics of human lung carcinomas. More broadly, his laboratory is focuses on cancer genome discovery and pathogen discovery in human disease.

Jones is Chief Scientist at Dana-Farber’s Center for Protein Degradation. The goal of the Center for Protein Degradation is to interrogate and advance a large portfolio of advanced targeted protein degrader targets while creating a next-generation protein degrader platform. The platform will utilize knowledge created while interrogating the targets and will continue to advance the science of targeted protein degradation of additional members of the proteasome for therapeutic benefit.

The tradition of AAAS Fellows began in 1874. This year’s AAAS Fellows will be formally announced in the AAAS News & Notes section of the journal Science on November 27, 2020. A virtual Fellows Forum an induction ceremony for the new Fellows will be held on February 13, 2021.
