Starting March 16, 2026: Longwood Medical Area traffic and access changes
Construction on our new inpatient hospital will begin soon. Before you travel, review the latest changes to traffic patterns, transit options, and pedestrian access.
The future cancer hospital will be located on the current site of the Joslin Diabetes Center, and adjacent to both Dana-Farber and BIDMC, creating an interlocking campus and a seamless patient experience from outpatient to inpatient care.
The proximity to our outpatient and research facilities in Longwood supports our continued bench-to-bedside research model.
The transformational gift — the largest single gift in Dana-Farber history — from Jonathan and Jeannie Lavine and Josh and Anita Bekenstein will name the planned cancer hospital. It builds on the two families’ decades-long dedication to Dana-Farber’s mission of delivering expert, compassionate patient care while accelerating discoveries that improve outcomes for people with cancer around the world.
The new inpatient building will span 450,000 square feet with 10 inpatient floors, offering:

With our plans for a new adult inpatient cancer hospital, Dana-Farber and BIDMC together will be able to manage all aspects of cancer care for our patients and their loved ones in the Longwood Medical area.
