Biography
Cary Weiss, MD, PhD
Dr. Cary Weiss is a pediatric oncologist and physician-scientist focused on improving outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults with high-risk and rare solid tumors. He earned his MD and PhD in Cell Biology from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed pediatrics residency in the Boston Combined Residency Program’s Accelerated Research Pathway. He subsequently completed fellowship training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. Dr. Weiss’s research focuses on pediatric and adolescent/young adult renal tumors, with a particular interest in translocation renal cell carcinoma. Under the mentorship of Dr. Srinivas Viswanathan, he studies how oncogenic fusion proteins rewire cellular programs to drive tumor growth and therapeutic resistance, with the goal of identifying new therapeutic vulnerabilities to improve treatment for patients with rare kidney tumors. Clinically, Dr. Weiss cares for children with cancer on the inpatient pediatric oncology service. His long-term goal is to build an independent translational research program that connects clinical care with laboratory-based discovery to develop better strategies for children and young adults with rare and difficult-to-treat cancers.
