Biography
Desiree Steimer, MD
Dr. Steimer serves as a surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery and holds a clinical instructor position at Harvard Medical School. She practices at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Southcoast Hospital.
Graduating with a medical degree from the University of Kentucky, she completed her general surgery training at Baylor University Medical Center. Furthering her expertise, she underwent cardiothoracic surgical residency and an additional fellowship in foregut and general thoracic surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
Her passion for oncology ignited during her time at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where she delved into researching genes associated with cell death pathways. Her research interest is focused on patient frailty and optimizing care for elderly patients with lung cancer and other thoracic malignancies. Dr. Steimer is dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized care to her patients. She performs surgeries with minimally invasive techniques (through small incisions) to decrease pain and improve patient recovery from surgery.
