Biography
Laura Van Metre Baum, MD, MPH
Dr. Baum received her medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. She subsequently completed residency in Internal Medicine at New York University in 2013 and a Chief Year at NYU in primary care in 2014. She completed fellowship in Palliative Care at Mount Sinai Hospital in 2017. Dr. Baum subsequently completed fellowship in Hematology and Oncology and a Masters in Public Health at Vanderbilt University in 2021. She was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and attending physician in Medical Oncology and Palliative Care at Yale University / Smilow Cancer Center from 2021 until 2025. She joined Dana-Farber in 2025 as a GI Medical Oncologist. Her research focuses on population health and supportive oncology with a focus on opioids in cancer care as well as mental health outcomes and patients and families with young onset cancer.
