Biography
Paolo Ghia, MD, PhD
Paolo Ghia received his MD from the University of Torino, Italy, in 1990 and received his PhD in 1995 working at the Basel Institute for Immunology, Switzerland, studying B lymphocyte development.
He has done his post-doctoral training at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, Boston studying the molecular mechanisms of the pathogenesis of chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, particularly of follicular lymphoma.
He is Professor of Medical Oncology at the Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele, in Milano, Italy, and Director of the Strategic Research Program on CLL, a clinical centre at the affiliated IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, dedicated to clinical research including a dedicated unit for phase 1 studies.
He is currently visiting the Division of Hematologic Neoplasia at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA and he is Senior Lecturer at Harvard Medical School.
He has published over 380 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals on the pathogenesis and management of indolent B cell lymphomas, including Follicular lymphomas, Marginal Zone lymphomas, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
He is President of the European Research Initiative on CLL (ERIC) and Treasurer of the International Workshop on CLL (iwCLL). He is co-leading author of the EHA-ESMO guidelines for CLL treatment. He contributed to the ERIC recommendations on IGHV, TP53 and MRD analyses.
