A resident of Palm Beach, Florida, and Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, Judie Schlager is a graduate of Simmons College. She has three children and nine grandchildren. A retired real estate broker, Schlager has served as an overseer and member of the Board of Trustees of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute for 11 years. She is a former member of Massachusetts Health Care Dimensions Hospice Board, a member of the Corporation of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the Women’s Health Executive Board and the Susan F. Smith Center Visiting Committee at Dana-Farber, and presently serves on the Board of the Evelyn Lauder Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
In 1991, Schlager was twice diagnosed with breast cancer and spent the better part of that year fighting the disease. In the 13 years since her illness, she has become an incredible force in raising public support for Dana-Farber in Boston, Palm Beach, and for cancer patients everywhere. She has spoken to, counseled, and referred so many cancer patients to Dana-Farber that there is now a group known as “Judie’s Club.”
Recently, Schlager and her husband made a gift of $500,000 to Dana-Farber. This gift established the Judith P. and S. Lawrence Schlager Family Fund, designed to help ease the financial burdens affecting some families receiving care at Dana-Farber.
