Robert A. and Renée Belfer
Robert A. Belfer graduated from Columbia College '55 and Harvard Law School '58. He enjoyed a long career with Belco Petroleum Corp., and was named Chairman in 1983. The company merged in 1985 with InterNorth, Inc., now a part of EOG Resources. In 1992, Bob founded Belco Oil & Gas Corp., a leading independent producer of domestic oil and gas, which was acquired by Anadarko Petroleum. He is currently Chairman of Belfer Management LLC, a private investment firm.
The Belfer Family has supported Dana-Farber since 1996. Bob is a member of the Board of Trustees of Dana-Farber and Founder of its Belfer Center of Applied Cancer Science. He is also a member of the Visiting Committee of the Harvard Kennedy School where he has endowed the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs which focuses on national security, energy and the environment. He is on the Board of Overseers and the Executive Committee of the Weill Cornell Medical College, and is former Chairman and current member of the Board of Overseers of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He serves on the Board of Governors of the American Jewish Committee, the Board of the Alzheimer’s Drug Discovery Foundation and he is an active member of the Council of Foreign Relations and of Business Executives for National Security.
Bob and his wife, Renée, established the Robert and Renée Belfer Family Foundation, which in addition to the above supports institutions including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and the Weizmann Institute of Science.
The Belfers have three children and five grandchildren. Besides philanthropic involvement, they enjoy family time and travelling abroad, and are avid collectors of Greek and Roman antiques as well as modern and contemporary art.
